Laboratory Testing BAGG maintains a laboratory that performs the common engineering tests on soils: tests such as moisture content, bulk density, specific gravity, liquid limit, plasticity index, gradation, direct shear strength, consolidation, expansion, and permeability. Trained technicians conduct tests in accordance with ASTM, CalTrans, the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), and other appropriate laboratory standards. Rock tests, triaxial shear, R-value, and special or unusual soil tests are subcontracted to Cooper Testing laboratories. Asphalt, bricks, steel, pipe, and masonry testing is performed by DCI. Both DCI and Cooper Testing laboratories have been certified by the Division of the State Architect, CalTrans, AASHTO, and the Cement and Concrete Reference Laboratory (CCRL). Chemical and analytical tests of soil and water are subcontracted only to state-approved laboratories that specialize in chemical/analytical testing. The BAGG laboratory is now a CCRL inspected lab for concrete compression testing. We are excited about getting our DSA Certification in the near future (Spring 2008), which will enable us to conduct concrete compression testing for schools and hospitals. The BAGG lab now has a state-of-the-art concrete cylinder curing system where cylinders are stored in a humidity- and temperature-controlled steam room. Our lab technicians and engineers work closely with the special inspections team within the firm. |
