Geological and Geotechnical investigations are generally performed to develop engineering criteria for design or planning purposes. BAGG has performed geotechnical/geologic studies for numerous commercial, residential, subdivisions, commercial business parks, mid-rise buildings, landfill designs, bridges and highway overpasses, railroad embankments, hospitals, educational facilities, multi-level parking facilities, hotels, and motels, service stations, industrial buildings, seismic upgrade of existing facilities, roadways, forensic investigations, and landslide and fault investigations. BAGG has performed subsurface investigations using boreholes drilled by using a wide variety of equipment, test pits, test trenches, Cone Penetration Tests, and geophysical surveys. We have an in-house soil testing laboratory where we perform common engineering tests. We also have an established relationship with other local testing laboratories for specialized tests.

Geotechnical studies are typically performed to develop design criteria for foundations of buildings, bridges, towers, and roadways, etc. BAGG participates on a number of jobs where the subsurface conditions and/or building loads necessitates the use of deep foundations such as concrete piles, steel piles, drilled cast-in-place piers, and geopiers. BAGG performs the geotechnical design of these foundation systems and provides observation services during foundation installation.

The geologic and seismologic studies are undertaken to:

  • Identify and characterize old landslides
  • search for active faults
  • evaluate potential earthquake and ground response including site specific response spectrum
  • evaluate potential for soil liquefaction and estimate liquefaction related settlement
  • evaluate rock rippability
  • recommend remedial measures

BAGG performs subsurface investigations, geologic mapping, and laboratory testing to develop a conceptual model of the landslide, analyzes the landslide model using various computer programs to evaluate static and seismic stability, and develops recommendations to stabilize the landslides. We provide engineering consultation, observations, laboratory testing, and field testing services during the site grading phase.

BAGG provides seismic hazard evaluation services. These services include identification of seismic hazards through literature studies, geologic mapping, fault investigations, and subsurface investigations. Based on the client's request, we provide seismic design parameters as per the Uniform Building Code, or develop site specific seismic response spectrum as required.

BAGG performs analyses to estimate ground displacement and settlement during the design seismic event. We develop engineering recommendations to minimize post-construction distress to the structures as a result of identified seismic hazards.
